Sofia Tramonte

Undergraduate Student, Level IV

Sofia is entering her fourth year of Biochemistry at McMaster University. She developed an interest in infectious disease research after taking introductory immunology and virology courses in her third year. Sofia is fascinated by the factors that influence the severity of viral diseases. She is particularly drawn to exploring the ability of the immune system to regulate tissue pathology during viral infection and how this knowledge can be translated to develop effective immunotherapies.

For her fourth year thesis, Sofia will be working with Emily to explore the role of type III interferons in HSV-2 infection; specifically, the mechanisms of IFN-λ-mediated immune regulation to mitigate severe disease outcomes.
